May is Mental Health Month: Celebrate Mental Well Being...
Now is the time to become educated and more aware of those with mental illness If you know anyone with mental illness, educate yourself. By educating yourself you wll not only have a better understanding of mental illness, but of the person with the mental illness. There are support groups in your area that can hep you better understand and cope with a person with mental illness.
For more information contact the NAMI organization in your area.
OUR MISSION
Providing a supportive enviroment to help meet the needsof the mentally ill...
The mission of the center is to provide a supportive environment to help meet the socialization needs of the mentally ill. We attempt to stabilize and structure their daily lives as well as use of their leisure time. We provide all of the programs on the handout we have passed out. We have a kitchen, craft area, tv room with VCR, library, and a card and game area along with a snack table which provides daily fruit, snacks, coffee and other beverages. We are air conditioned which at this time has been quite important as many do not have that luxury in their apartments and come in just to cool off with a drink. We have easy access to the bus lines which is again very important for their transportation to and from the drop in. Our hours at this time are from 1:00 ti14:00 which we are hoping to increase to some morning hours. We are also open on Monday nights for football night and one evening a week for the Bridges program.

It is time that you the consumer became more active in the centers fund raising activities. Next time that there is a fundraiser step up and help out.
Director's Page
Since May is mental health month I would like to make a few suggestions. First of all educate yourself,so that you can become an advocate to someone with mental illness,
The second thing isthat when dealing with someone with mental illness, relate to the person not the illness.People get so casughtup in the illness that they forget about the personality. The illness does not make the person , personality does.
